My dog is eating poop and licking urine. What can I do to stop it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 7 months and 18 days old | 28 lbs

So not only is Asher licking my females urine but now he’s eating her poop. What can I do to get him to stop? I heard sprinkling salt on the poop can stop them from eating it? He has a very good diet!

This is called coprophagia and most puppies will grow out of this behavior over time. There are products you can give that will often curb the stool eating behavior. They don't work in call cases but it is not harmful for you to try. Putting salt on it after the fact will not work. The best thing to do is once the dogs defecated, immediately pick up the stool giving him no chance to eat it. He can't eat it if there is no access.
