My older dog has a nose blister. Is it a histiocytoma? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Male | 7 years old | 16 lbs

My 7 year old chihuahua has had this blister on his nose for the last couple weeks. He had one on his nose when he was a puppy but it wasn't as bad and went away quickly. He has many food allergies. I think it is a histiocytoma, like to know if I am right and what to do for it?

Yes, this could be a histiocytoma but it is very hard to say for sure. Many masses can look the same to the naked eye. Histiocytomas are more likely to occur in younger dogs; since he is older I would a bit more concerned. I suggest you leave it alone for now and just monitor it. If it is a histiocytoma it should go away on it's own. If it does not go away in about 6-8 weeks OR it starts to bother him or get larger, then have your vet check it by doing a fine needle aspirate (they will get some cells with a needle and look at them under the microscope to see what this is). The only thing I can really recommend at this stage is to put him on an immune system booster supplement like this one: ( https://www.platinumperformance.com/dogs-cats/dog-cat-conditions/dog-immunity ) Hope this helps. Best wishes.
