Why are my New Zealand rabbit's ears floppy? Will it affect market value?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | unspayed | 4 lbs

One of my White New Zealand babies, who us about 7 weeks old has ears that are kind of like a hollands where they flop rather than how most New Zealands are where they stand straight up. I've seen Californians with this as well and I was just wondering what causes it and if it will make her placings lower as a market rabbit. Thank you!! (The pictures are a comparison between her sibling's ears and hers)

Thanks for reaching out about Bunn and including photos. Lop ears are a recessive gene, that is probably the cause of the phenotype in Bunn. As to the marketability, not sure. A rabbit judge might have more input. Try contacting a local rabbit club or 4H group. Good luck.
