My dog has a crusty, scabby spot above her eye. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 45 lbs

My dog has this crusty/scabby situation above its eye. The kennel said she may have scratched it and irritated it but she has not been scratching it since we picked her up. It doesn't seem to be painful for her when we touch it either.

That lesion could be many things including an abrasion that is healing, a bacterial infection or something like ringworm (which humans can get). That's good that she is not scratching at it. You may monitor it at home. If it is not getting better after a week, if it starts looking worse or if she starts rubbing at it, have Bella examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
