Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 68 lbs

I was wondering if it's really necessary to give my dog heartworm prevention medication in addition to her monthly flea and tick medication. I live in Ohio

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Sadie. Flea and tick prevention will not protect against heart worm disease. Therefore it is important to give both, especially given your location. Heartworm disease is spread by mosquitoes and is very dangerous to dogs. I hope this information helps!
