My 5-month-old puppy is thin. Is she getting enough food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Vizsla | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 21 days old

I have a Vizsla/Bloodhound mix. She is about 5 months old. She is up to date on all shots. Only problem is she is having a hard time gaining weight. The pictures don’t really show it so great but her ribs are prominent and you can see her hip bones from the top view. She eats about 4 cups of Taste of Wild Dry Puppy food a day. Should I be feeding her more calories or is it just her breed?

There is not a photograph attached to this post. If she is too thin, I recommend to increase her food intake. Also make sure she is current on her deworming medication. Puppies at her age are lanky, they are like teenagers so being thin is normal. They don’t generally begin to fill out until closer to one year of age. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
