My dog ate cat poop, vomited. Toxoplasmosis risk for pregnant owner?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 9 months and 8 days old | 9 lbs

Hi, My 9month old dog ate the neighborhood cat poop today. The poop was fresh. He started to vomit 30 mins after for about an hour. Since then he has been fine. Should I be worried about toxoplasmosis infection at all. I am also 4 weeks pregnant, so I am a little freaked out. I made sure I washed my hands several times.

As long as you didn't handle the poop, you will be fine. It just sounds like the poop upset Cody's stomach, and many dogs eat cat poop without getting toxo. Since he's fine now, I'd just watch him. If he starts vomiting again, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.
