My dog has a random dry cough. What home remedies can help her throat?

My dog has been randomly have dry coughs that last no more than 10-15secs and she does not throw up anything. I believe what she throws up in here month, she swallows. He coughs happen completely random, even while she is laying down. She had her Kennel Cough Vaccine in May 2019. Is there anything I can give her to help her throat?

It’s hard to know why your pup is doing this. It’s possible she has allergies or is breathing in poor quality air. Parasites of the lungs, heart disease and primary lung disease can also cause coughing. A few things you can do at home which may help include starting her on an omega-3 fatty acid supplement and using an air filter in the house. If she has not been seen for the coughing, I recommend to have her examined by her veterinarian and if the doctor suspects allergies, discuss antihistamines. I hope this helps and best of luck.

    A dry throat can be helped by running a humidifier and an air purifier with a HEPA filter to help remove particulates that are found in all homes. An omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets can also help to better condition the throat. Feed a high quality dog food like Royal Canin or Nutro as well since they are aimed at skin health. Also, make sure a veterinarian agrees that her cough is caused by a dry throat because at her age, other health concerns become more worrisome. I hope this helps.

Cough can be caused by an infection, heart problem or lung condition, it is important to first know the cause before treating it as treatment is different from condition to another. The most common disease causing cough is a viral infection called Kennel cough, this disease usually resolves without treatment within a couple weeks but if the cough is too severe it is recommended to go to the vet in order to get cough medicine and antibiotics.

My dog has a dry cough in the mornings and at night that started yesterday. This morning, she spit up white foam twice. She is up to date on her kennel cough and other vaccinations. The photo shows what she coughed up.
Unfortunately it's impossible to know the underlying cause of the coughing without a physical exam and possible radiographs. Pets can cough due to allergies, infections or something more sinister. Even vaccinated pets can get kennel cough though it tends to be less severe (just like humans can get the flu even though they have the vaccine). Treatment is different for each of these conditions. At home you can try rest for a few days so no running or anything to cause panting. Keep her from barking as well. If you don't want to wait you can certainly have her examined today. Otherwise if the coughing doesn't improve after a few days or if it gets worse at any point, I recommend to have Sadie examined by her veterinarian. Best of luck.

Spunky developed a cough. It sounds like a dry harsh cough. It sounds like she's trying to cough up something and it started about 2 days ago. But she's still eating and doing her thing. Does this sound like kennel cough and if so, is there any home
It could be kennel cough, but without seeing Spunky in person, I can't say for certain. I see from your info that she is very young, and I never recommend trying to treat young puppies at home. They are just too delicate. Have her seen by a vet.

I have a 11 year old shih tzu. Yesterday all day and night, continuing today, when she gets excited she starts to hack. No throw up, nothing coming out just seems to be and disturbed bothered throat. Said hacking does not appear to alter her appetite
Poor Chloe! You can put her in a steamy bathroom for five minutes twice a day. Start her on an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for pets as this can help to condition the lining of her trachea. You can also try an over-the-counter antihistamine but you will have to call your regular veterinarian for a recommendation as online veterinarians are prohibited from discussing human medication usage in pets. If the coughing continues beyond two days or if it gets worse, have her examined by the veterinarian.

my dog is coughing and trying to vomit out the mucus but the mucus won’t come out so he is probably feeling uncomfortable. what can i do for him? are there any home remedies? i am coughing as welll so could it be that he got it from me?
Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dog. It sounds like he has an upper respiratory tract infection based on the symptoms you have described. He will need to see his veterinarian if the coughing persists. In the meantime, you can turn the shower to hot and close the bathroom door. Allow the steam to build up. Then place him in the bathroom to breathe the warm humid air. This can ease congestion. It is unlikely that he acquired the infection from you, but it is possible. I hope this information helps!

Hello. Hope is such a cutie! A cough may be due to inflammation, irritation, infection or something more serious like heart disease, heartworms or some primary lung disease. Hope does not look like an old dog, so a serious problem is less likely. If you have any honey, this is a great, natural way to ease a cough. Give her a teaspoon every 3-4 hours & if the cough continues & worsens into tomorrow, do have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Poor girl. Unfortunately there are no home remedies for an undetermined underlying cause for a cough. Coughing in itself can be caused by tracheal collapse, underlying heart condition, respiratory infection (kennel cough), etc. In order for you to treat her, we will need to find out the underlying cause. It sounds like she likely may have a kennel cough condition. Tracheal trauma is possible since you mentioned she was fine before trying out a new harness on her; however, most harnesses fit lower on the chest, which don't rub on the throat at all. Give her the rest of the day to see if things improve. You can also offer her a small amount of honey mixed with water, which can help reduce some inflammation in her throat. Continue to give her free access of water and keep her activity level to a minimum. If she is still coughing by tomorrow, then its best to take her in to your vet for a complete physical exam to hopefully narrow down some causes for this cough, so that it can be tre

There really isn't anything over the counter that I recommend giving him. He could have a respiratory infection and your vet can prescribe an antibiotic and cough suppressant to help control his coughing. If he seems congested than you could put a humidifier in the room and/or put him in the bathroom with you while you shower.
