My dog has a worsening scab. When should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Male | neutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 20 lbs

Should i be concerned. Kiko has had this on him for about a week now and it started out small then started bleeding then turned into a small scab and then turned into a bigger scab which turned into this i cut the hair around it carefully to prevent infection without touching it because it really seems to be irritating him a lot. i’m worried and i am leaving in a few days to visit some family and i would like my baby’s to be fine when i leave him with my uncle.

I'd leave it be for now, and have your family monitor it for signs of infection (redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, pus). If there are any signs of infection, have them take Kiko into the vet. Best of luck.
