My cat has a new sore on his neck. What should I do about it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 lbs

Hi my cat has a small sore on the back of his neck. He is eating and drinking and tilting normally and his temperament is the same but I dont know what it is. Can you help? It just came up today. My cat is 8 year old and is indoors apart from occasional access to my back garden for about 20 mins a day. Thank you.

It could be an injury from outside. I would gently clean Milo's wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck.
