Why is my spayed dog bleeding on the bed and licking her bottom?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 9 years and 9 months old | 15 lbs

I’ve woken up to 2 drops of blood on the sheets twice from my 10 yr old chihuahua jack Russell mix dog. She’s fixed, and eating as normal. I have not seen any blood in her stools. She was licking her bottom when I noticed the drops on my sheets each time. Should I be concerned?

Dripping blood is not a normal thing, but it is hard for me to tell you if it is serious or not, or where it could be coming from. I would recommend that you have Annie examined by a vet to see where the blood could be coming from and if she needs diagnostic testing to determine the cause.
