Why is my puppy aggressive after spaying and cone removal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My puppy just got spayed about 2 weeks ago. Today we took the sutures out and she took the cone off. Once we went back home she attacked my other dog who they usually get along really well (before the spaying). When she attacked him she bit him on the head and she didn’t want to let go. She didn’t hurt him he was phased but there was no blood. Is this a normal behavior after spaying? Is the aggression due to spaying?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. No, this isn't normal behavior after spaying, and spaying doesn't cause aggression. It could be Clementine saw something at the vet that upset her, and she redirected her aggression at your other dog when she got home. I'd keep an eye on her for now, and if this behavior continues, I'd take her back into the vet. Best of luck.
