Why does my Conure have watery stools after diet change and fruit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Conure | Male | 4 months and 4 days old

My Conure today has had watery stools a few times. He started having watery stools a couple hours after bathing and having blueberries. I recently started giving him fruits because I haven’t had him that long and just got him use to eating them. I also recently changed his diet from Kaytee Forti Pro health to Lafeber’s parrot food since just yesterday. He is use to eating the Kaytee food since that is what the pet store fed him. Could that be why his stools are watery?

Fruits and new food can definitely be a cause of watery stool, especially if it started after all these changes. I would remove any extra treats for a few days and only feed the new food to see if that helps settle his stomach down. Once he's settled in, you can then add in treats one by one to see how he does. If the loose stools continue even after a few days on the diet with no snacks, or he shows any other signs of illness, a vet visit is always best.
