My friend's chameleon looks sick. What's wrong and what should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Chameleon | Female

I’m watching a friend’s chameleon while they are on vacation. I’m concerned about her (chameleon), I’ve never seen her like this. I’m attaching photos. I just want to know if there is something I should be doing. I read about egg bound and Metabolic Bone Disease.

Thanks for reaching out about the chameleon and including pictures. The first photo with the swayed back is very suspect of MBD/calcium deficiency. Diet and husbandry need to be review and correct, and a veterinary visit should be scheduled ASAP. Typically concerns are poor calcium in the diet, lac of UV light, poor temperature, etc. This is an emergency. Good luck.
