My cat's eye keeps watering on and off. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 3 years and 4 months old | 12 lbs

My cat's eye has been watering since yesterday morning and I just want to know if I need to take him in or if it's something i can take care of at home. It starts up and then goes away and then comes back. In the photos it seems to have subsided a lot.

If the signs persist more than other 5days a check may be needed as that is likely to be due to a mild conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a trauma or infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well.
