My dog's stomach is bloated after spay. Is it bloat? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year old | 10 lbs

Coco got spayed about 36 hours ago and she was doing great until about 11 PM last night then I noticed that her stomach started to look bigger, a little bit bloated. What can I do to make sure it’s not bloat? Should I be worried or should I wait and see what happens? She hasn’t tried vomiting and her gums aren’t pale, I don’t want to touch near the incision site unless I have to.

If you are concerned you should take her back to the vet for a follow up. It sounds like she is stable but I cannot make that call for you. If you are worried about bloat you need to know the signs to watch for. See the link below. That is all I can tell you without examining her myself.
