Post-declaw: Why is my cat licking and shaking her paws?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 months and 15 days old

Marvel had a laser declaw yesterday morning she is home now. I didn’t see stitches but she is licking her paws and shaking them in the air. What could the reason be? I’m holding her now. She already had her pain meds. She is purring and yawning a lot now.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Marvel. The paws may have been closed with tissue glue as opposed to stitches. The paws will feel different to her and are likely still sore. Give the pain medications as directed and try to keep her quiet. The more she moves initially, the more pressure on her paws which will result in discomfort. Continue to comfort her as you have been doing. If she still seems uncomfortable, please contact her veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
