My bird is opening his beak after eating and sneezing. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 3 days old

I just noticed that after Quiz takes a mouthful of food he opens and closes his beak for a few seconds before eating again. I've never seen him do this before? Could he be having trouble swallowing? He's still eating. I've also noticed he is sneezing lots as well. Should I be concerned? He is active and happy otherwise?

Thanks for reaching out about Quiz. Not sure is something is in the throat but maybe in the choana (slit in roof of mouth). This could be food, an infection or other, and would also be an answer for the sneezing. A veterinary visit would be a good idea, prior to becoming a more advanced problem. Good luck.
