My nursing cat's belly is hard and noisy. Is she sick or grieving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Scottish Fold Longhair | Female | unspayed | 1 year old

My cat eve had a birth and brought 5 cats in world one month ago. She had diarrea and it is gone now. All good with that. Anyway one cat had accident and died few days ago. She is griefing a lot since then. Still giving milk to other 4 cats. When i approach to pet her and head bump her in lying position, i can hear her stomach making noices and when i touched her gently on belly it is hard like rock. I am really scared that she is seriously ill.

It's hard to tell what is going on, but a rock-hard belly is certainly abnormal. I would recommend that you have Eve checked out by a vet to see if this could be a serious issue or simply related to her missing the kitten.
