My dog ate too much food and is bloated. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 1 year and 7 months old | 40 lbs

My dog has gotten into the back neighbours yard and eaten all of their dog food, she is 16 kg and ate about 4 cups. She is very bloated but no pain, stomach is very hard, she is also stressed as the dog attacked my other dog and she is at the vets overnight. She ate the food about 4 hours ago, only a little poop, does she need to go to the emergency vet?

If she is resting quietly, not vomiting, and having no breathing issues then she is probably fine for you to just monitor her now. I strongly suggest you don't feed her anything for 24 hours but make sure she has plenty of water available to drink. If she is having any troubles then she needs to go to the emergency vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
