Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed
Hello, A couple of days ago, i began to see my cat pawing at her water bowl instead of drinking from it. What concerns me is that i’m not sure when this habit started, i am afraid she hasn’t been drinking enought water as she’s supposed to. I suspect she has diarrhea, because when she’d do her business in the litter box i’d see wet poop stains on the carpet. I have currently bought a water fountain, if that changes anything. Is there another way i can ensure my cat is drinking enough water?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Zoe. I would measure out the water in her water fountain first thing in the morning, and then the next morning, remeasure it. That will tell you how much water she is drinking. She should be drinking between 3.5–4.5 ounces of water per 5 pounds of body weight per day. You can also give her wet food and add water to it, which will get more water in her. I hope this helps!
