My dog has an oozing lump under her tail. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 6 years and 1 month old | 70 lbs

My Black Lab/Border Collie mix has a ghastly protrusion coming out from under her tail. We saw it first yesterday but our car is at the mechanic. Today it is larger, is splitting open & oozing. Molly's eating/drinking normally. Yesterday her activity level was normal but today she is subdued. Her breathing/heart rate feel normal. She doesn't flinch when I gently push on her abdomen. She is using her tail to guard the protrusion but allows me to lift it to check.

That protrusion is from her vulva. Molly needs to be examined by the veterinarian. It’s possible there is an infection or a mass which could be cancerous. The veterinarian will get a better idea once the area is palpated. Have her examined today. Best of luck.
