Why is my senior dog gagging and has a growth near his anus?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 11 years and 6 months old | 30 lbs

My corgi dog name Boston has a large grape size growth to the side of the anus. Boston also gags more often than in younger years when he rolls on his back for chest rub then gets up with coughing or gagging at times. Sometimes happens after drinking water too. Boston is 11 1/2 years old. Please comment on both of these concerns. Thanks.

Poor Boston. This growth could be a malignant tumor, and it really needs to be checked out by a vet. This coughing and gagging could be due to heart disease, which should also be examined by a vet. I'd take him into a vet in the morning. Best of luck.
