We just bought a border collie puppy. I think she has a hernia/inguinal hernia. What should we do?

Have the veterinarian check this swelling at her next office visit. Generally a hernia is surgically repaired during the spay. Large hernias may have exercise restrictions. Your veterinarian will best advise you after palpating the area.

We cannot tell you which it is just by looking at a photo. It needs to be palpated by a vet in person. Sorry, that is the best we can tell you without examining her ourselves. Soft and squishy can be either a hernia or a seroma (fluid). It is concerning because you stated she is painful and the swelling is asymmetrical. Get her back to the vet for a follow-up. Usually a post-op exams are free at most vet clinics. It is just any additional meds or testing that would be charged for.

It needs to be rechecked. It can either be a hernia from the incision or holding well or a seroma which is not uncommon in hyper dogs or puppies that jump up. A seroma will go away on its in with time and cause no trouble. If the incision is failing then she will need surgery to have t repaired. The only way to know if to have someone actually feel the area to be sure
