Why did my cat get an eye infection and will it happen again?

Oreo had an eye infection for more than a month after we got him last April, now it is healed. Do we have to be worried about it and why did he got that infection? Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 3 lbs
