My dog is partially blind from smoke. What can I apply to her eyes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 1 year and 5 months old

On May 23 a house fire destroyed our home 2-5 of our babies did not make it, We are still struggling with the tremendous loss, but what keeps us going is the tremendous effort and the fight to get better, since then two are doing great, princess in the other hand due to the severe smoke inhalation she is partially blind. She sees shadows and bumps on everything, it's very hard for her to eat, play, just simply be herself, is there anything I can apply to her eyes? Maybe to help them get strong?

I am so very sorry to hear about the fire and the loss of your pets. In terms of her eyes, without knowing the actual diagnosis of what is going on with them we cannot really make a recommendation. I would recommend having her vet examine the eyes if they have not already. Some damage unfortunately is permanent, but without knowing the issue we cannot say. There is not likely to be an over the counter product that is going to make a change though, so the vet visit is truly your best option. Many dogs do adjust eventually to being blind and get around quite well once they have adjusted https://dogcare.dailypuppy.com/how-to-live-with-a-blind-dog-12109341.html
