Why is my 7-month-old kitten suddenly sleeping and not eating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 7 months and 5 days old

I’ve noticed some sudden changes in the behavior of my 7 month old kitten starting yesterday. When I got home she was sleeping and I notice she hadn’t eaten any of her food. I checked on her the rest of the evening but she was sleeping most of it. When I woke up the next morning she didn’t greet me she can be very talkative and when I got home this evening she still hadn’t eaten her food. I changed out her food, but hasn’t eaten. Mostly just sleeping and a lack of energy.

It sounds like Akira may be sick, and it is very serious when a cat won't eat. If they go long enough without eating (around 72 hours), they will develop a fatty liver. A fatty liver is fatal without treatment, so you want to avoid this. Have her seen by a vet first thing in the morning.
