Why does my outdoor kitten get fly eggs in its long hair? How to stop?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 13 days old | 1lb

I have a long haired baby kitten outside about 2 months old that keeps wondering off and coming back full of fly eggs deep in his hair. This is awful and I take a fine tooth comb to get out most of it. Why does this happen and what can I do to stop it? I never had this happen before and I'm afraid it's going to kill li'l smokey.

That is unusual. I recommend to have a conversation with her veterinarian about a flea prevention that may have activity against flies as well. You will need to keep up the constant brushing and checking. You may also want to take in some of the eggs you have found to confirm that they are fly eggs. It is very important to keep the eggs off off Smoky so that she does not get a significant infection in her skin. I hope this helps and best of luck.
