Why does my dog panic, pant, and whine when my wife comes home?

When my wife comes home from work everyday my dog goes into panic mode. She starts panting and whining. My dog isn’t afraid of my wife cause she stays by her side when she is home. When she isn’t home she’s a totally different dog happy as can be. Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 10 years and 6 months old | 50 lbs

At 10 years of age, if she is just starting this behavior, I suggest you get her to your vet for an exam to rule out an underlying medical issue. I know you say she is normal acting when your wife is not home but at her age, it is still best to be checked out. Now, I would say the same for your wife. Your dog may be sensing that something is wrong with your wife - some medical condition underlying. So your wife should see a doctor as well. In the meantime, I strongly suggest that your wife ignore Harlow when she comes home. Any attention she gives her is just reinforcing this unwanted behavior. She should not address her at all until she is calm and quiet.
