My 4-week-old kitten is skinny but has a big belly. Is he healthy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 19 days old | 1.5 lbs

This kitten missed his mother's milk. I think he is growing unhealthy. His neck, face are still skinny. But he is eating a lot. Already he got a belly overselling. Please suggest me some nutrition supplements which will grow him healthier. He is little more than 4weeks old. Can he eat hard food?

Wizzy is so cute! He may have intestinal worms causing the swollen belly, those are common in kittens. Give him a deworming treatment. He doesn't need nutritional supplements, his kitten food will provide all the nutrients he needs. To help him wean and to get used to dry food, I would soak a high quality kitten formulated dry food in warm water until soft. Then mix that with kitten formula such as KMR to make a mush the consistency of oatmeal. Over the next two weeks, gradually increase the amount of dry kitten food and decrease the amount of water and KMR you use until he is eating the dry kitten food only. Best of luck.
