My nursing dog has a hip sore after puppies. How to treat at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 65 lbs

My dog had puppies 12 days ago so she's feeding them all the time, but today I noticed today she seems to be developing a pressure sore on her hip. I'm concerned it will get worse during the weekend so is there anyway I can treat it at home until next week? It may not even be a pressure sore, but I don't know. Thanks!

It could be a pressure sore. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep an eye on it to make sure there is no sign of infection. Help move her so she isn't laying on it, and pad up her nesting area with lots of blanket to soften the area.
