My dog screamed after Cerenia shot. Is it painful or does it burn?

I took my dog to the vet last night for vomiting and they gave him an injection of Cerenia and Famotidine. When getting the injection he screamed so loud that he could be heard in the waiting room. The tech said that sometimes those injections can burn. Is that true? He's been hiding under the bed since we got home

Cerenia is a drug called maropitant, it is very effective but unfortunately it is very stingy on injection. I imagine this has scared him a little, but if he seems out of sorts for an extended time I would consider going back.
