My cat keeps picking her wound scab. When should I see the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed

Our cat got into a fight two weeks ago and got a large cut to the side of her face. She keep pulling her scab off and aggravating the wound. We have tried antispecrix spray for cats but this seems to have little effect. Is there any advice on whether we need to return to the vet (we went a couple of days after she first got wounded)

Certainly a buster collar would avoid further scratching and an antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) will avoid any risk of infection. Even though a picture of the wound would help to determine the most appropriate underlying treatment more specifically, I think in this case a vet check up would be ideal.
