Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 10 days old
Greetings. I recently noticed some strange behaviour from Tom. He is very calm, sleeps a lot, doesn't eat, but still enjoys being petted considering his purr. He is also very skinny. I would like to know what is causing this behaviour because I had a cat with the same symptoms which unfortunately died. I am currently unable to take him to the vet. What is wrong with him and how can I help him at home ? Could it be the constant change of temperature ? Please help as soon as possible. Thank you.

Unfortunately it is impossible to know what is wrong with Tom without a physical exam and bloodwork. There are many conditions which will cause cats to become thin. Kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, cancer, liver disease or parasites can all cause pets to lose weight. Bloodwork and an exam is needed to determine the cause. At home there may not be much you can do because you don’t know what’s wrong. Certainly feeding a high-quality cat food and ensuring water intake will help but it may not be enough. I recommend to have Tom examined by the veterinarian a soon as you can. Best of luck.
