Dog scratching after flea meds. Is it allergies, mites, or fleas?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Male | neutered | 11 years and 7 months old | 27 lbs

Hey there. My dog has been biting and scratching himself incessantly. I assume this is flea related but I have already given him 2 doses of K9 Advantix II in a one month period. I have been contemplating Benadryl or a flea collar but I’m not sure. Thank you so much for your help.

It could be Django has fleas, and I'm wondering if you have disinfected your home as well. If not, it will be a continuing source of fleas. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. It could be he has allergies or mites causing this scratching. I'd take him into a vet in the morning to get checked out.
