What causes vomiting, hot paws, and back pain in my older cat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | spayed | 11 years and 2 months old | 16 lbs

My cat is 9 years old and 16 lbs. She has recently vomited twice and has hot paws. She eats normally and has treats before bed every night. She has some back pain as well. She will not let us touch her back.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Vomiting can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. The back pain is likely unrelated and may be due to arthritis for example, among other possibilities. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Pretty evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated. They would be able to check for these possibilities and also check her hydration status and give her medications to make her feel better. Good luck!
