My dog's anus is bleeding and raw, but she seems fine. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Female | spayed | 5 years and 3 months old | 30 lbs

*PHOTO WARNING* All of a sudden Dani started bleeding from her anus. It looks almost raw, as if it was scraped off? She ate her normal meals and she had a bath earlier in the day, which is nothing out of the ordinary. Any suggestions as to what caused this? She is acting normal and doesn’t seem irritated by it. I cleaned it and applied a thin layer of antibacterial ointment. It stopped bleeding but it still looks raw. What can I do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Dani. I agree that her anus appears irritated. Place an E-collar on her to prevent her from licking it. If it heals, then I would not worry about it. However, if it does not heal or recurs, then she needs to see her veterinarian. Her anal glands could be bothering her causing her to bite or scoot on her anus. I hope this information helps!
