My Indian ringneck bird is injured and bleeding. What should I do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | 2 months and 24 days old | 0.5 lbs

Indian ringneck injured trying to escape cage. Got stuck and I had to free him. Was bleeding from top of head and corner of mouth. Has stopped bleeding, still eating and maneuvering around cage but I can tell he is in some pain. No emergency/after hours avian vet in my area. However they will be open tomorrow I believe. I hope. He is a new pet and not too fond of hands. I've been working with him but forcing yourself on him makes him fight or flight. I dont want to stress him out any extra. Help

Thanks for reaching out about Blue and including photos. A veterinary visit is recommended as soon as you can arrange. Checking to ensure beak is not damaged is important. Monitor for appetite and actual ingestion of food as they will often play with the food and not eat. Easiest to monitor fecal production. Pain medication and antibiotics can be provided during your veterinary visit if deemed necessary. Good luck.
