Why does my puppy sleep under the bed? Is this normal behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 8 days old | 1.66 lbs

I’m a single parent of a 6 week old Beasky (beagle husky mix) male. Since I work, he is crated from 9am-12pm, 2pm-5pm and in the night 11pm-6am. His crate is right next to my bed. Off late, I’ve noticed that while playing he’ll suddenly move away and go lie down under the bed. Is this behaviour normal as I feel he’s pissed at me? I then leave him alone and If I see he’s fallen asleep, I pick him and place him in his crate. Is that a correct thing to do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! What a cute name for your new puppy! If Groot is tired it is not uncommon to go sleep and he feels comfortable and safe under the bed. He isn’t mad at you, just sleepy which is normal for a puppy his age. He will play longer as he gets older. Putting him in the crate after he sleeps is perfect! This is teaching him his crate is his den and a safe place to be. It sounds like you are doing a great job! Kisses to Groot!
