My dog is still scooting after treatment. Could it be allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labradoodle | Female | 2 years and 2 months old | 68 lbs

My dog keeps scooting even after an anal flush and 2 weeks antibiotic course to get rid of an anal infection. She STILL keeps scooting everyday yet no obvious signs of anything wrong in her anal area. Why is she still doing this? She's up to date with flea and worm tablets. She also rubs the sides of her body along walls and licks her undercarriage though not sure if that related to scooting?

Hello. The next step here is to rule out allergies, which would definitely explain all of Bella's behaviors. It is not unusual for dogs to experience peri-rectal irritation & inflammation during an allergic flare-up. Talk to your veterinarian about a trial of one of the terrific antiallergy medications ( Apoquel or Cytopoint ). Food allergies can also manifest as skin issues, so this might be something to consider, too. Hope Bella is doing well soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
