Dog nose bite swelling after 3 days. Scared of vet, help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 70 lbs

Hello, My 8 year old dog, Vella, got into a fight with a dog through a fence and she was bitten on her nose. She didn't bleed very much but this happened 3 days ago and the swelling hasn't really decreased. I was hoping we could just put her on some antibiotics? She is absolutely terrified of the vet and I think we would have to give her general anesthesia just for them to examine her. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! I've attached pictures below.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and attaching pictures! Vella is a beautiful dog and I’m sorry she was bitten. From the pictures the wounds don’t look deep or infected. I would keep them clean and dry with a mild soap and water. I wouldn’t apply any ointment because she will just lick it off. If you don’t see any drainage, feel any heat, or note any pain I would continue to monitor it. She will likely not need antibiotics. Unfortunately, we cannot prescribe medications through this site, so she would have to see a vet but I doubt you will need to do that. Good luck and kisses to Vella!
