Cons of stenotic nares/soft palate surgery for French Bulldogs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 26 lbs

Hi, our Petco Pet Education Center vet recommended we look into stenotic nares/soft palate surgery for our french bulldog. She doesn't have breathing issues right now, but we understand it could improve her quality of life. We love our dog and are willing to pay for the surgery if she could potentially live longer. What are the cons to having this surgery? Thanks.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are really no contraindications to this procedure. I would agree with the other veterinarian that this may improve quality of life now or in the future. This is a fairly straightforward surgery and as long as she does well under anesthesia which is very likely, she will do great. Best of luck!
