My Boxer mix has an enlarged heart. Should I wait 2 months for a cardiologist?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | BullBoxer | Female | 2 years and 2 months old | 50 lbs

Saturday, our primary vet determined that Frankie most likely has an enlarged heart (2 years old, Boxer mix). She said a normal measurement is 10.5, but Frankie looks to be a 12.4 (I forget what the unit of measurement is). We scheduled an appointment with a veterinary cardiologist, but the soonest they're available isn almost 2 months from now. Should I try to book a vet who can see her sooner? Any other thoughts? Thank you so much.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Frankie isn’t having other symptoms like coughing, collapse, weight loss, respiration issues, or other health concerns, you can wait. Otherwise I would try to get an earlier appointment with a cardiologist. Frankie is young and an enlarged heart at this age needs to be addressed by a specialist. Good luck and kisses to Frankie!
