What home remedies can I use for my puppy's fungal skin infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 26 days old

Primo is still a puppy that is to be 1 month old this July, and we have been noticing that he and his sister Portia has some red bumps on their legs and tail, we have them check with a vet and diagnosed as a fungal infection. and she recommended to give medication on the skin and to keep them away from each other and their mother, but the mother is still grooming them, instead she gave us vitamins for skin care. I just wanted to know is there a home remedy we can put on the infections? thank you.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This sounds like a focal infection. You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!

I agree with your vet's recommendations for now. Often times lesions will look worse before they look better. I suggest you continue as directed and if this lesion doesn't go away I would suggest your do a biopsy.
