My budgie has pink skin & fluffed feathers. What home remedies help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Female

There is a pink skin right under my budgies feathers and I want to help and treat the budgie but I am unable to go to the vet to get proper treatment and I was wondering if there is anything I can do at home to help her. Signs of her sickness would be fluffed up feathers, sleeps most of the day but sometimes very active with other budgies, her breathing noise is squeaks and she could be around the age of 4-6 years maybe?

Thanks for reaching out about Winter. Fluffed feathers and sleeping a lot are general signs of illness and not specific for anything. Providing supplemental heat in the 80-85 F range can give some comfort but is not a treatment in itself. Infections, heart disease, metabolic disorders (liver, kidney), nutritional deficiencies, can all cause these symptoms. Monitor water and food intake and offer these through a syringe if needed. A veterinary visit is needed to go further. Good luck.
