My cat's chest lump is shrinking. Should he still go to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 6 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs

I noticed my cat, 6tr okd male, had a lump almost the size of a walnut last Tuesday. Felt like a cyst, under the skin on chest, seemingly not attached to body. Softer, and round. Yesterday it felt oblong and almost pointy and firmer. Today it’s smaller, still firm but shrinking. Should we keep his vet appt we have scheduled for Tuesday. It seems like it is shrinking and would hate to bring him in unnecessarily.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Cezare. Yes, I would keep your appointment. If he does have a cyst, these can reoccur if the sac of the cyst isn't removed. I would have him seen by a vet to see if this really is a cyst and if the sac does need to be removed. Best of luck.
