Why did my old cat with heart issues and hyperthyroidism die suddenly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 15 years and 5 months old | 6 lbs

My kitty dies suddenly 2 days ago. She was 15 1/2, spayed and was treated for hyperthyroidism for several years. She seemed to have a UTI problem for one day prior to passing away. Her appetite diminished for the last few days and she stopped eating the morning of the day that she died . She had a very rapid heartbeat for the last year. Our vet thought she had a heart attack.

She may have thrown a clot. Without a necropsy, it will be hard to say what definitely caused her death. What your veterinarian is saying can absolutely be the case. I am so sorry you lost Baby. It is never easy to lose a member of your family and I wish you peace during this time. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
