My dog is snoring, coughing, and congested. Could it be a cold or allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 8 months and 15 days old | 55 lbs

Last thurs our dog began to snore. This isn’t a typical habit of his. He also had been coughing intermittently (not a kennel cough cough, he had that in past- this was More like a cough “something in my throat” cough.) We brought him to the vet- they prescribed antibiotics and did a swab test To check if he has anything specific. the past few days he has continued to sound congested (does this happen to dogs?) stuffy nose- minor coughs at times- do dogs get colds? Strong allergy meds maybe?

Dogs can get colds or allergies. I would talk to your vet about the results of the swab. You can use a humidifier to help break up secretions. If it isn't getting better in a few days or if Apollo shows additional abnormal symptoms, he should be re-examined by the vet.
