Dog with cast yelps suddenly: Is she hurting or just adjusting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years old | 7 lbs

My Tootsie has a cast for a broken toe. She's had a cast for 1 week 2 days. Every now & then she'll seem comfy and then quickly get up & yelp as if something is hurting her suddenly. I'm not sure If it's something to worry about or maybe she's just not used to this thing on her. Any other reasons for this behavior?

Poor Tootsie! It may be she accidentally lays on her foot or moves a certain way that causes her pain, leading her to get up quickly and yelp. She's also likely not used to this cast on her. She is so cute!
