My dog is throwing up clear vomit with blood. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 50 lbs

My female dog who is about 6 years old and a little over weight recently has been throwing up clear vomit with streaks of blood. We haven't changed her food and doesn't eat human food at all. She also , when we take her outside, she eats the grass. Ican't think of what could be causing this.

Poor Lily. Vomiting streaks of blood is a medical emergency ,and she could have a foreign body, damage to her stomach or esophagus, GI ulcers, or may have eaten something toxic. You need to take her into a vet immediately.

It sounds like lily is suffering from more than one problem which are probably non related (at least the blindness), vomiting blood is a very severe sign and it is considered to be an emergency medical condition, you must take her to the vet URGENTLY, this is not a condition you can handle at home. causes include tumors, infections, foreign body ingestion, pancreatitis, liver failure and more.
